Texas auto insurance should do more than simply meet state minimum limits. Liability protection, uninsured and underinsured motorist exposure, deductible strategy, umbrella coordination, teen drivers, and higher-value vehicles all need to work together. Wayne Lilly Insurance helps Texas drivers—especially those in Spring, Klein, The Woodlands, and surrounding North Houston communities—compare multiple highly rated carriers to build smarter protection around real-world claim exposure, asset protection, and long-term premium value.
What we review
• Liability limits that actually protect your assets—not just meet Texas minimums
• Uninsured / underinsured motorist exposure in a high-risk Texas driving environment
• Deductible and coverage structure to balance real-world claims vs. premium cost
Texas Auto Insurance Questions
These are the most common issues we review with Texas drivers—many of which directly impact liability protection, deductibles, and real-world claim outcomes.
-
Yes. Texas has a significant number of uninsured or underinsured drivers. UM/UIM coverage helps protect you if the other driver cannot fully pay for damages or injuries.
IMPORTANT NOTE: It is vital that your UM/UIM coverage for property damage is enough to protect your highest value vehicle.
-
State minimum limits are designed to meet legal requirements—not to fully protect you. A serious accident can easily exceed those limits, leaving you responsible for the remaining costs out of pocket. Higher liability limits help protect your savings, income, and future earnings, especially if you own a home or have other assets.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Many drivers don’t realize that the insurance company will provide legal counsel (attorney) in a lawsuit. However, once the claim reaches policy limit, the insurer will cut the check and your insurer provided attorney is no longer working for you. If you’re liable for more than your coverage, you will likely have to hire your own attorney after policy limit is reached.

Deciding how much your deductible should be is a personal choice and can depend on savings you have available if needed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Because claims can impact your premium for years some people choose not to claim certain damage. As an example, if you were to ding your bumper backing out of your garage and the cost is $1000 to repair. Are you going to file that as a claim, or pay to fix the damage yourself. If you think you would pay for it, consider raising your deductible to match what you would pay of out of pocket. However, understand that in a larger incident you would still be required to pay that $1000 deductible for a covered claim.

As your independent agent, we generally shop your policy at least once a year.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Most insurers ask how long you have been with your prior insurance company. If they see that you change insurance companies frequently, they may not offer the best rates to you. This is why it is important to have a detailed conversation with your independent insurance agent to assess the potential savings of changing insurers against the long term availability of the best rates.
